Speech Delays and Language Concerns

My daughter just turned 2 and she only uses about 8 words. Her motor skills and social skills are on point but she doesn't speak or seem to have no interest in it. She does not make eye contact with anyone for more than 2 seconds. She is extremely shy and will cover her face if you look at her. What kind of test should I get for her and where should I go? The last doctor she saw said she has Autism traits but passed the M-CHAT test.

At age 2 your daughter should be using at least 50 words and be starting to put 2 words together into phrases such as "Mommy go" or "want juice". The M-Chat is a simple screening for autism, but if you or your doctor have concerns about autism, you should have your daughter formally tested by a licensed psychologist or other practitioner who is qualified to make this diagnosis. This is our page link related to autism.

In the meantime, you should definitely contact your local early intervention program and ask for a full developmental evaluation, as it seems in the very least your daughter would be eligible for speech therapy services. Here is a link to some local services
