Fetal Alcohol Syndrome

Back to Full List of Diagnosis

Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) is a lifelong condition that causes physical and metal disabilities.

What are the symptoms of
Fetal Alcohol Syndrome?

Babies with fetal alcohol syndrome are born with abnormal facial features, growth deficiencies, and central nervous system (CNS) problems.

As your child grows, he or she could have problems with learning, memory, attention span, communication, vision, hearing, or a combination of these.
Some babies born with FAS are born with a smaller body size, lower birth weight, and other impairments, but do not have all of the symptoms listed above.

What is the Cause of Fetal Alcohol Syndrome?

If a woman drinks alcohol during her pregnancy, her baby is exposed to that alcohol which can cause this syndrome.

Treatment of Alcohol Fetal Syndrome

There is no standard treatment; each aspect of the baby's health is dealt with as needed.
